Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers stated they were contacted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.

City officials announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
